What exactly is meant by pre-Diwali days? Why is the term used so often by industry people in their interviews?
- Govindraj N.
– The days leading to the Diwali festival are referred to as pre-Diwali days. By tradition, they are known to be dull days for the box-office because attendance in cinemas drops. Since it is a Hindu festival, Hindu families get busy in preparing for it with things like spring cleaning/painting the house, buying new clothes and crackers, preparing sweets etc. Films are one of the last things on people’s minds.
In your editorial last week, you mentioned that the Bolly- wood party seems to be nearing its end because corporates are becoming tight-fisted. Will the quality of films improve because of this?
- Devika Tandon
– Quality of films has no direct correlation with availability of funds or the ease with which finance can be got. But yes, the indirect effect of the tight-fistedness of corporates will be that filmmakers will now have to pull up their socks if they are to continue in the business.
Your verdict on Himesh Reshammiya as an actor?
- Deepika Gehlot
– He will survive if he has the killer instinct, otherwise, it is difficult. He needs a new costume designer very badly.
