Akshay Kumar ensures a good (though not terrific) opening for CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA but the same Akshay doesn’t get the audience in for JUMBO. What’s the catch?

- Jawahar Kapoor

- There’s no catch here. Stars are responsible for the opening a film gets, but other things such as the film itself, other names associated with it, genre, promotion, expectations, all make a difference.

Your write-ups say that GHAJINI has earned Rs. 50 crore in two weeks whereas the ads of the film proclaim a figure of Rs. 200 crore. Explain.

- Jaya Iyer

- If you read carefully, our write-ups talk about distributors’ share from all-India whereas the ads speak about the gross collections from the world over. The Rs. 200 crore worldwide gross figure is as right as the Rs. 50 crore all-India share figure.

Will the awards coming the way of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE help its box-office fate in India?

- Chirag Shah

- The awards will help only marginally because the Indian film-going audience doesn’t attach much importance to them. But reports suggest that the film is commercially so strong that it will work in India in both, the English and Hindi dubbed versions.
