Singh Is King?

Sardarjis are suddenly in fashion in Bollywood. Don’t get it? There’s a portion in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal in which hero Saif Ali Khan plays a Sardar.

Rani Mukerji disguises as a Sardar in Anurag Singh’s debut directorial venture, Dil Bole Hadippa!. And in Shimit Amin’s Rocket Singh, Ranbir Kapoor plays a Sardar, Rocket Singh.

Last year’s Singh Is Kinng also had Akshay Kumar playing the turbaned hero in the title role. Considering that cases of heroes/heroines playing Sar­dars in films have, till now, been few and far between, the current scenario is indeed quite unique.
