ACP Ashwini Dixit is a cop with a nose for solving every crime. Much admired by his assistant Ankit, Ashwini’s life is packed with eyewitnesses, post-mortems and crime. That’s when he isn’t bantering with his pretty wife Shikha over poetry and art. ‘Crime main bhi art hai,’ he teases her.

His latest case is a set of murders that revolves around Vodka Diaries, a club celebrating its anniversary.

But curiously, the victims come alive one by one, Shikha goes missing and there’smystery girl Roshni Banerjee adding to the intrigue.

Is the ACP losing the plot or losing his mind? Or is there a bigger plot afoot?

New director Kushal Srivastava sets out to keep the guesswork going almost till the end. But he doesn’t quite succeed. There have been English thrillers, and a couple of Hindi ones too, with the same predictable plot. So it’s pretty easy to figure out where it’s all going. Thusit’s a tiresome wait for the pages to keep turning until the end.

Where it does score is in its casting. Kay Kay Menon holds the fort as ACP Ashwini Dixit. He’s just such a fine actor. Mandira Bedi as wife Shikha and Raima Sen as Roshni are pleasant. Unfortunately, actors alone don’t make a watchable film.

For a thriller that doesn’t raise the viewer’s curiosity, Vodka Diaries gets a 2* rating.
