Based on the sensational Neeraj Grover case, the director dumbs down a gruesome murder that horrified the country. He turns an appalling deed into a filmi stereotype.

The plot: Neglected lover Robin (Deepak Dobriyal) comes to Mumbai to surprise his girl Anusha (Mahie Gill) and ends up getting surprised himself. When he sees her half-clad with stranger Ashish (Ajay Gehi) in her apartment, he flies into a rage. He murders Ashish, convinced he had raped his girl. Now the task is to dispose of the body.

The good: The performances are the saving grace. Deepak Dobriyal who plays the convicted murderer Emile Jerome, effectively conveys the madness, angst and fury of a jilted lover without going over the top. Mahie Gill is impressive too as she moves through the emotional spectrum from the over-ambitious, confident career girl, to the scared yet coping gal to the damsel in distress. The others do a fair job in bringing out the mood of the film well.

The bad: A lot of unnecessary, unrealistic Bollywood masala has been added to make it look like a wannabe thriller. The sound effects are ridiculous and the shots evoke impatience rather than mystery. As for the camerawork, it looks as if a midget is handling the camera, since almost all the shots are taken below the belt (up Mahie’s legs, below her skirt etc). The bizarre camera shots may have been intended to project the craziness of the protagonists, but they wind up being totally jarring and don’t merge with the mood of the film. Certain scenes are too long and unnecessarily gory. There’s a desperate attempt to add crude shots to every scene. The music is uninteresting and the repetitive ring tone in the movie gets on your nerves. There’s barely any application of mind to the direction, just a sheer attempt to make it a scary thriller by adding random elements to an interesting plot. The couple more often than not look sexually desperate instead of in love. A lame attempt to cash in on a sensational case.

Overall: For those interested in discovering the intricate details of the murder, a google search is recommended.
