Review of The Japanese Wife

As slow as snail mail
It’s snail mail in the era of SMS and email.
Aparna Sen has shown a predilection for desolate loneliness right from the 36 Chowringhee Lane days and she doesn’t disappoint on that front in The Japanese Wife.

No drool over Prince of cool

An international thief as suave as Aryan (Hrithik Roshan) of Dhoom:2 and all the James Bond movies put together is what the expensively-mounted Prince sets out to recreate.

Wonder where it came from

If The Japanese Wife was like a bullock cart with a wheel that’s come off, writer Milap Zaveri’s first attempt at direction takes off like a rocket with some enjoyable comedy that features guests like Farah Khan (comfortable before the camera as a self-obsessed film director) and Akshay Kumar (he is first-rate in his comic turn as a senior star who bitches out the new competition).

Stale Travail

Hark back to the bloody days of the Partition if you must, when Rajvir Singh (Rishi Kapoor, wasted) and Rekha (ditto) raise the wailing infant of Pak parents who’ve fled Amritsar, leaving behind their little one.

A Flight With Turbulence

It could’ve been any upwardly mobile couple, the way Krish (Aamir Bashir) and Meera (Sandhya Mridul) bicker all the way while motoring down to Goa.

Clipped before take-off

The cruel tale of a little boy called Jerry who is forced to work as a little girl called Baby Kusum, could have made a poignant screenplay.

Lost Heritage

A story that had its heart in the right place with a heritage property being threatened by a richie-rich chain of restaurants, Tum Milo Toh Sahi unfortunately stumbles before it unfolds with tiresome predictability in its celluloid narration.
Review of Hum Tum Aur Ghost

On the whole, Hum Tum Aur Ghost lacks entertainment in the sense in which the audience today wants it. Its story is also not so strong that the public would overlook the lack of the usual entertainment value and accept the film whole-heartedly.
Review of Well Done Abba
March 27, 2010 by FSJ · Leave a Comment

On the whole, Well Done Abba may be an intelligent satire but it won’t do well at the box-office because it is a wrong marriage – of mass-appealing content with class-appealing treatment. It will have its share of fans but that just won’t be enough.
Review of Mittal V/s Mittal

On the whole, Mittal V/s Mittal is a very dull show and, given its horrifyingly poor start, it will be unable to make any mark at the box-office.
